This is an abbreviation for Alternative Dispute Resolution and it means alternative (in relation to legal proceedings) ways of finding solutions to disputes. We should include mediation among such methods. The word ‘mediation’ comes from the Greek language (medos — mediating, not belonging to any of the sides), and Latin (mediatio — mediation).
